“A Daughter Is More Valuable Than Three Sons” Nollywood Actor RMD Reveals

by Bm Bloggers

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) recently shared a powerful perspective on family dynamics and the value of having daughters over sons, which has sparked a significant conversation in the Nigerian and African context.

In a thought-provoking statement, RMD emphasized that having a daughter can be more valuable than having three sons, an opinion that challenges the traditional preference for male children in many African cultures. The actor’s remarks shed light on the important roles daughters play in families, often defying societal expectations.

RMD shared a personal story from his own life to illustrate his point. He recalled a time when his father fell ill, and it was his sisters who stepped up to care for him. According to RMD, his sisters made significant sacrifices to ensure their father received the care and attention he needed, even going so far as to quit their jobs to tend to him. In contrast, RMD pointed out that his brothers did not offer the same level of support, which highlighted the unique and often underestimated contribution of daughters in family care.

His comments resonate with the broader conversation on gender roles and expectations in many African societies, where sons are typically seen as heirs to the family name and financial support. RMD’s personal reflection on how his daughters showed more compassion and responsibility during a critical family moment challenges the conventional notion that male children are more valuable. Instead, it underscores the selfless and nurturing qualities that daughters often embody, and the crucial role they play in family life beyond traditional expectations.

RMD’s statement has opened up a meaningful discussion on the evolving perceptions of gender and family structures, highlighting that both sons and daughters have unique and irreplaceable roles to play. His perspective adds to the growing conversation about the need to value all children equally, regardless of gender.

In his words; “When my father was ill, my sister left her job to stay with him. My other sister left her business to work shifts with her, None of us boys left our business or work.

RMD mentioned that men who are upset about having only daughters don’t realize how blessed they are. He pointed out that they have actually won a great prize, and their complaints are just silly.

RMD stated; “Yet you foolishly complain that you have only girls? you have hit a jackpot.

RMD emphasized the significance of daughters compared to sons. He pointed out that daughters can extend a parent’s life, are less prone to mischief, and are often more compliant.

He also shared that when a daughter leaves home, she keeps her parents in her heart. As they age, she is likely to take them into her own home, regardless of her marital status.

RMD encouraged fathers with only daughters to stop their complaints and to appreciate the blessing of having daughters.

In his words; “Each of your daughters is worth 3 sons! Having a daughter prolongs your life. She will not get into as much trouble as your sons.

“She is less likely to be disobedient. When she leaves your house, she will remember you. If you are too old to leave alone, she will move you into her home, matrimonial or not. Go and thank God for having daughters!”
