Nollywood filmmaker Ugezu Jideofor Ugezu has once again sparked discussions online, this time addressing a prevalent issue among Nigerian politicians. Taking to his social media platform, Ugezu shared a thought-provoking observation about a pattern he has noticed: many Nigerian politicians tend to speak candidly about the truth of political matters only after leaving office.
In his post, Ugezu highlighted this recurring behavior, questioning why transparency and honesty are often delayed until their tenure ends. His post read:
“Why do Nigerian politicians suddenly become truthful after leaving office? What is stopping them from saying these truths while in power? What exactly are they afraid of?”
The filmmaker’s query has ignited widespread reactions, with many Nigerians resonating with his concerns. Some commenters suggested that fear of repercussions or the need to maintain alliances while in power might explain the trend. Others expressed frustration, arguing that such delayed honesty does little to help the public when proactive action is needed during their tenure.
Ugezu, known for his outspoken views on societal and political issues, has previously used his platform to call for greater accountability among leaders. His latest post is seen as a continuation of his advocacy for integrity and transparency in governance.
The post has opened up a broader debate about the responsibilities of politicians in office and whether they owe the public unfiltered truths while still wielding power. Many hope that Ugezu’s message inspires introspection among current leaders.
Ugezu wrote:
“There’s something in Nigerian politics that someone should please explain.WHY IS IT THAT NIGERIAN POLITICIANS WILL ONLY START TALKING SENSE ONCE THEY LEAVE OFFICE? Is it that we have demons in all the government offices that blind them once they get sworn in? Nigeria is in a mess and only sincerity in administration can salvage things.”
