Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, a well-known Nigerian crossdresser, has denied allegations of bribery made by social media influencer Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan. The controversy arose after an audio clip circulated, in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) demanded N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.
Bobrisky had previously faced six charges related to currency abuse and money laundering, involving N127,780,877.98, which were reportedly transferred into his company’s Eco Bank account between 2021 and 2024. However, the charges were dismissed after a settlement with the EFCC, according to the Commission’s legal counsel.
In response to the audio, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed an investigation into the claims, as directed by the EFCC’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Bobrisky, addressing the issue on Instagram, refuted the bribery accusations, clarifying that he had already served his sentence and dismissing the viral audio as false. He urged the public to disregard the claims, calling the recording fraudulent.
Bobrisky wrote:
“My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira, and that I was never in prison… I didn’t pay any EFCC money, is a very big lie. I served my term in full, and I came out. Discard any false information.”
