Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 United States presidential election. Trump, the Republican nominee, triumphed over Democratic vice president Kamala Harris, securing 292 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 required for the presidency. Kamala Harris, who garnered 224 votes, was praised by Davido as a formidable woman for her strong performance in the election.
Davido’s support for Trump came as part of his public acknowledgment of the election results. Just a few days earlier, it was reported that Davido, who was born in Atlanta but raised in Lagos, traveled to the US to vote in the election—a decision that drew criticism from some, particularly due to his failure to vote in the 2023 Nigerian General Election. Despite the controversy, Davido expressed his admiration for both Trump’s victory and Harris’s campaign, signaling his positive outlook on the election’s outcome.
On his X handle, the singer wrote, “Congratulations 47th POTUS @realDonaldTrump. But you @KamalaHarris should be proud! You did that! A solid woman.”
