Kemi Olunloyo, the outspoken investigative journalist known for her controversial statements, has launched a sharp critique of Afrobeats star Davido on social media. She accused him of being all talk and lacking substance regarding his late mother’s family in Edo State.
Recently, Davido expressed his interest in the Edo governorship election on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State, which increased his personal stake in the election.
However, Kemi quickly responded, accusing Davido of “chasing clout” while allegedly neglecting his mother’s family in private. She claimed that despite his public displays of pride in his Edo heritage, he has distanced himself from his roots for years.
Kemi alleged that billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke, Davido’s father, played a significant role in this estrangement, intentionally keeping young Davido away from his mother’s relatives after her tragic passing when he was just nine years old.
She also hinted at unresolved issues in Deji and Veronica’s marriage before her untimely death, suggesting these may have contributed to the strained family ties.
In her bold statement, Kemi urged Davido to stop using his mother’s name for political gain and instead focus on rebuilding relationships with her family in Edo, emphasizing the need for him to mend the fractures he has long overlooked.
