Mercy Johnson-Okojie, a Nollywood actress, has drawn harsh criticism on social media for publicly endorsing Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate running for governor of Edo State.
The actress was seen urging the audience to support APC candidate Okpebholo at a rally in a video that has been making the rounds on social media.
She highlighted the need for change in Edo State in the video, citing the absence of necessities including security, water, electricity, and medical care.
“Therefore, vote Monday, vote for the APC, and vote for the broom when you get to that field early in the morning,” she instructed.
However, the video has caused reaction on social media, with detractors accusing her of backing the national ruling party in spite of the severe economic suffering that the nation is currently experiencing.
In the election scheduled for September 21, Okpebholo is running against a number of opponents, including Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) and Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
