Pope Francis bestowed a new award on Dame Christine Doja, the mother of billionaire Femi Otedola.
Her 61-year-old son feels mother fully deserves the Papal distinction of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, which she was granted.
Femi honored his mother, who is 92 years old, by posting pictures of her clutching the award with pride and posing with other church members.
Attending the Dame Doja celebration was Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, the 88-year-old retired Archbishop of Lagos.
Pope Leo XIII established the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, often known as the Cross of Honor, in 1888. It is given to Catholics who have made substantial contributions to the Catholic Church and the office of the pope and who are 45 years of age or older. This is the highest honor that a woman can receive from the pope.
