Ayra Starr, the well-known Nigerian singer, recently shared her thoughts on handling fame and the pressures of the music industry during a heartfelt conversation with American singer and actress Coco Jones.

In a discussion featured by Rolling Stone, the two artists explored the challenges women face in the spotlight, shedding light on some of the hidden struggles within their careers.

Ayra Starr reflected on her journey, discussing the constant demands of her job and the emotional toll it takes, offering insight into the realities behind the glamour of fame.

“I feel like it’s always a lot,” she admitted. “People only see about 1%, but for an artist, it takes a village. It takes so much to get things done right.”

She explained the impact of her packed schedule on her, particularly after a fast-paced year of shows. “I did so many shows last year… sometimes I disappear when it gets overwhelming,” she said, acknowledging her need to retreat and recharge.

Starr shared that even though she is becoming more famous, she continues to live with her family, which helps her stay humble.

“When I go back home, I’m still living with my family. My brothers might be making noise and playing video games, so the house is still very much full,” she noted, adding that being close to her loved ones helps her cope with the pressures of fame.

Highlighting her ties to her heritage, she mentioned that she looks for Nigerian food during her travels because it brings her comfort and joy.

Ayra also discussed her creative path, explaining that she remains focused on her artistic goals despite the distractions in the industry.

“I definitely listen to close people around me, but I knew what I wanted creatively,” she said. “I’ve always had the freedom to create whatever kind of music I wanted.”
