As Donald Trump made his historic return to the presidency after winning the US election on November 6, 2024, several Nigerians, including celebrities, weighed in with their opinions.
Isreal DMW, also known as Israel Afeare, took to social media to link Trump’s victory to Nigeria’s electoral system. In response to a post on Tunde Ednut’s page, which highlighted a singer’s campaign song for Trump, Isreal commented that Trump would have lost the election if the United States’ electoral process was similar to Nigeria’s. His comment reflects common frustrations about Nigeria’s electoral system and its perceived flaws. Trump’s win, securing over 270 electoral college votes, was met with varying reactions, with many drawing comparisons between the political landscapes of the US and Nigeria.
