Nigerian artist Portable has publicly urged crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to reflect on his actions and “repent from his sinful ways.” This appeal comes amidst Bobrisky’s ongoing legal and personal struggles.
Recently released from prison on August 5 after serving part of a six-month sentence for involvement in the misuse of the Nigerian currency, Bobrisky is now facing new allegations. Social media influencer Martin Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, shared an alleged audio recording where Bobrisky supposedly claimed to have bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to dismiss the charges against him.
Bobrisky has denied these allegations, calling the audio “fake” and asserting that he has not engaged in bribery, insisting that he served his prison term. The EFCC has summoned both Bobrisky and Otse for questioning, with the agency’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, launching a full investigation into the matter. Additionally, the Nigerian government has suspended two officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service linked to the situation.
Rapper Falz has corroborated part of Otse’s claims, stating in a letter to the activist that Bobrisky solicited ₦3 million from him to receive preferential treatment in prison, a request he declined.
In light of these events, Bobrisky has revealed that he is struggling with suicidal thoughts but clarified that he does not seek sympathy, only understanding during this tough time. Portable responded to the unfolding drama by advising Bobrisky against these negative thoughts, encouraging him to seek repentance and divine forgiveness, which could lead to a transformative change in his life.
Portable said, “Bobrisky, life is risky. God does not want sinners to die. Tell him to repent. Damn it to any sinner that does not repent. If you die, you are going to hell. Beg God to forgive you. God does not want a sinner to die.
“Help me tell Bobrisky to ask God for forgiveness. All Bobrisky needs is to ask God for forgiveness of sin. What Bobrisky is facing now, if he repents, he will enjoy the world. But if he does not repent.”
