Members of the National Assembly are apparently in Ondo State to monitor the election in preparation for Nigeria’s proposed electoral changes, which appears disingenuous.
The general belief is that they cannot claim ignorance of the true issue with the country’s electoral system.
The political class has frequently been accused of orchestrating all of the electoral frauds that occur in the country in order to win by whatever means possible.
Without going to Ondo, senators and members of the House of Representatives were aware of the major issues in the nation’s election.
Before they can claim to be in charge of election oversight, they must first heal themselves of this disease. They are the folks who finance fake news on social media and attempt to destabilise other parties for their personal gain.
Over the years, vote-buying and voter intimidation have been linked to politicians that encourage violence in order to win by trick or crook.
One of the primary issues in election management is the collation of results. Politicians have often undermined the collation process through dishonest INEC officers.
These politicians have repeatedly undermined the country’s electoral process. Many of them knew how they had gotten into the National Assembly. Some people got around the provisions of the Electoral Act by bribing their way into the legislative houses.
According to Jide Ojo, an election observer, “Altering or amending electoral law one thousand and one times in one year will not give us credible election.”
He instead challenged lawmakers to purge themselves of the corruption that they had instilled and allowed to develop in the country’s political process.
