There was chaos as unknown gunmen opened fire in Ofosun village, an Ondo hamlet on the Edo State border, causing locals to stay indoors for safety.
According to The Tribune, a resident merely identified as Dauda stated that the gunmen had been firing gunshots into the air in several portions of the village since early morning, with no casualties.
Festus Akingbaso, the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate, responded by alleging that hoodlums had entered villages in the Idanre Local Government Area.
“According to information I have received, the majority of the villages are populated with thugs supposedly brought in by the APC. Ofosun, Omifunfun, and Allah are among the occupied villages.
“In Igbepo, suspected thugs are said to be in big numbers. In Ofosun, we received reports of thugs breaking into a party member’s home to prevent him from voting. “There are plans to disenfranchise voters in these areas,” he explained.
He stated that the situation had been reported to both the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the Department of State Services (DSS).
He was disappointed by the lack of prompt action.
In response, Ondo APC spokesperson Steve Otaloro denied the charges and accused the PDP of attempting to incite unneeded tension.
“The individual making these charges is the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate.
“Was he physically present at all of the locations he mentioned? “Voting has been orderly in these areas,” he explained.
When reached, Funmi Odunlami, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that she was in travel and had yet to receive an official report on the occurrence.
