The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has certified Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa was proclaimed winner after receiving the most votes in the election. In Saturday’s election, the incumbent governor faced off against Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olorunfemi Festus of the Labour Party (LP), and Abbas Mimiko of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), among others.
INEC’s Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, announced the results in Akure, the state capital, saying Aiyedatiwa voted 366781, Ajayi received 117845, and LP received 1162. He continued: “Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.” Aiyedatiwa succeeded late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in December.
