Ondo election: PDP candidate criticises malfunctioning BVAS, criticises INEC

Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate in the present Ondo State Governorship election, has alleged a widespread breakdown of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.

Addressing reporters after casting his vote, Ajayi stated that it took him 10 minutes due to a BVAS issue, which should not have occurred.

The PDP candidate claimed that calls to other polling stations revealed a similar interaction, which he described as disgraceful.

He claimed that the BVAS issue was evidence that the device had been programmed as a rigging tool.

Ajayi confronted Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, and stated that his party had warned her that she would not be fair in the election.

He urged INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu to resign if he believes he cannot assure that the institution is not corrupted.

Our correspondent previously stated that the Ondo REC told reporters that BVAS had a 97 percent success rate in the ongoing election.

She revealed this while observing the election at various polling stations in Akure, Ondo State’s capital.

She was accompanied by Kenneth Onyeakwu, the National Commissioner of INEC, and Oladipo Abayomi, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State.

According to Babalola, the election has gone smoothly, with polls opening early and an amazing voter participation.

She also expressed confidence that the election would be conducted without incident.
