Ondo Election: PDP contender requests INEC chair to resign if he cannot conduct credible votes.

Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, has called on Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to resign if he is unable to conduct free and fair elections.

He reportedly accused soldiers of harassing voters by establishing checkpoints approximately 10 metres from his voting station.

The PDP candidate made the statement after casting his vote at Apoi 11, Unit 004 Kiribo. He asserted that field reports he received proved that the election was a shambolic exercise.

He regretted that the election was marred by anomalies, citing field agent reports.

He stated, “The system is not perfect; things aren’t working, and it took more than 10 minutes for the BVAS to recognize me as the PDP candidate. There are numerous issues around the state.

“If INEC fails to successfully arrange an election in even one state, Nigeria will descend into anarchy.

“I’ve been receiving complaints from around the state, and they’re all the same. Everyone in my unit, including myself, is a victim. I believe this is premeditated on the side of the REC and INEC. Don’t forget that we have previously declared that we do not trust Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the REC; she cannot be impartial.”

“The system is hacked, and there are complaints all around the state, including vote-buying and BVAS not operating. Remember, the machine is a rigging tool for them. This is a really humiliating exercise, and I believe Nigerians should contact INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu. If he is unable to perform the job, he should quit honorably because the system is completely undermined. This is sad.

“Under Professor Jega as INEC Chairman, our electoral process was improving toward international standards, but Professor Yakubu has set us back.”
