Rapper Shallipopi appears to have parted ways with Dapper Music, a label that played a significant role in his rise to fame in 2023. The speculation surrounding the split started after Shallipopi removed Dapper Music from his social media bio and unfollowed its founder, which seemed to confirm rumors of the breakup.
Shallipopi’s success with Dapper Music included several hit singles and the release of his popular debut EP Planet Pluto and his first LP Presido La Pluto in 2023. His second album, Shakespopi, also released with the label, featured the hit song “ASAP.” His collaboration with Dapper Music helped him build a large fanbase, and the label was instrumental in promoting Nigerian street music.
Despite the successful partnership, Shallipopi has now launched his own label, Plutomania Records, with artists Zerry DL and Tega Boi. His new single, “Order,” featuring Olamide, was released in collaboration with both Plutomania Records and Dapper Music, marking a significant moment in his career.
This departure from Dapper Music mirrors a similar breakup between another artist, Seyi Vibez, and the label. The split is likely to impact Dapper Music, which has gained a considerable market share in the Nigerian music industry, ranking second with a 7.97% share in 2024, largely thanks to the success of artists like Shallipopi and Seyi Vibez.
