The widely known as Simi, a Nigerian musician, has contributed her voice to the ongoing anti-tax hike demonstrations in Kenya.
According to Bmmblog, youths in Kenya are participating in large-scale protests called “RejectFinanceBill2024” in opposition to tax increases.
Amnesty Kenya reports that following a police-protester conflict on Tuesday in Nairobi’s parliament building, five protestors were shot dead and numerous others were injured.
Simi responded on Tuesday night via her X handle, stating that she was in favour of the protesters.
It is “powerful and heartbreaking for a people to have to fight and die for freedoms and rights,” the speaker said.
“I stand with the people of Kenya,” the artist penned. For a people to have to battle and lose their lives in order to secure freedoms and rights is both powerful and tragic. God bless you and keep you strong. [Hashtag] DisapproveFinancialBill2024
She said in a number of other posts: “Wow. It’s nearly certain that you will fight when you’ve had enough.
“African leaders – haven’t you done enough?
“I can’t wait for the day Africa is not a weapon fashioned against Africans. All of this amazing Black power and human resource, but the majority are not likely to thrive unless they run.”
