The ongoing defamation case between Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), and renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) along with his son, rapper and activist Folarin Falana (Falz), has faced a procedural delay. The Lagos High Court in Ikeja, presided over by Justice Mathias Dawodu, adjourned the hearing to January 23, 2025.
The postponement occurred due to incomplete documentation in the court file, with several critical applications missing from both parties. This procedural oversight halted any progress in the legal proceedings, further extending the case that has captured significant public interest.
The Falanas had filed the lawsuit following what they deemed to be defamatory statements made by VDM in a series of online posts. These posts reportedly accused them of unethical conduct and stirred widespread controversy on social media.
In the aftermath of the court’s decision, Verydarkman appeared undeterred. He shared a celebratory video on his social media, showcasing himself dancing and expressing gratitude for his legal team’s efforts. His post carried a triumphant tone, as he emphasized the importance of justice and fairness, claiming, “Nigeria is for everyone.” He also appeared to take a subtle jab at the Falanas, reinforcing his confidence in his defense.
The case continues to spark debates online, with supporters on both sides weighing in on issues of free speech, defamation, and accountability. The January 2025 hearing promises to bring further developments to this high-profile legal battle.
He wrote in his caption:
“Nobody get Nigeria, at the end them no be God.”
Remember that VDM gained attention when he posted a video of himself dressed in traditional priest-like clothing while arriving at court with his team.
