Afrobeats artist Ruger has raised concerns about the state of the Nigerian music industry, especially the rise of artists he believes are lacking in talent but gaining success due to strong promotional efforts. He expressed his frustration on social media, stating that the industryâs increasing reliance on financial backing for promotion has allowed even less-skilled musicians to achieve fame.
On his X account, Ruger shared his thoughts: âThe music scene has been troubling me because no matter how poor an artistâs talent is, if there is sufficient funding for promotion, they can succeed.â He went on to emphasize the importance of genuine talent, which he feels is often overshadowed by financial support.
Ruger also took issue with the heavy use of autotune by some artists, particularly during live performances, highlighting how it detracts from the authenticity of their music.
âNow, letâs talk about the gaddamn autotunes on the mic when yâall perform. Next time, tell your engineer to shut it down when youâre about to speak coz you be speaking in Tunez wahalaaaaaa. Well, Ruger donât need that shit. thank you,â he wrote
