Nigerian artist Jaywon has issued an apology to Ayra Starr after facing backlash for a post that many perceived as mocking her following the announcement of the 67th Grammy Awards nominees. Despite her strong year in music, Ayra Starr did not receive a Grammy nomination, which led to disappointment among her fans.

In the aftermath, Jaywon, who has had public disagreements with Ayra Starr in the past, shared a photo of himself holding two Grammy awards. This post was seen by some as a direct jab at Ayra Starr, who had been overlooked for a nomination.

Acknowledging the negative reaction, Jaywon has since expressed regret for his actions. In his apology, he praised Ayra Starr, calling her one of the best female vocalists in Africa. He emphasized his belief in supporting and uplifting fellow artists, rather than tearing them down, and expressed his hope for her continued success.

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has.
